Preliminary grades

You can view the preliminary grades (minus last “mid”term exam and final) on Blackboard. The grades do not take any revisions into account that you may have done to the group assignments after grading. If you have revised the assignments, please send me an email, so that I can review the grade.

Also, the grades do not yet reflect your wiki participation. I’ll add this part during finals week, so that you can still benefit from any work you do on the wiki. The wiki grade will be used to increase the grade portion under “group work.” Wiki participation can also help you if you are close to a better grade (for example, if you have 89% and participated a lot and meaningfully on the wiki, you’d get an A- instead of the B+).

To get your current grade, just divide the total points by 60 and multiply the result by 100. The resulting number translates into a grade according to the scale that I posted at http://broscheid.edublogs.org/2008/08/24/grading-scale/ .

If you missed an exam for a valid reason, you divide the total by 45 and multiply it by 100 (if you missed the first exam, divide it by 50 and multiply by 100). Then compare the resulting number to the table at http://broscheid.edublogs.org/2008/08/24/grading-scale/. This is just a ballpark figure, but it should give you an idea of how you are doing.

On November 17, I mentioned two studies by political scientists that provided fairly accurate forecasts of the national vote totals in the 2008 presidential election – without using election polls! The articles were published in the October ’08 issue of PS: Political Science and Politics and are available here. Enjoy!
